The Jetty Fishing Trail
Squid, whiting and the rails at dusk
The plan
The sheltered east coast of the Yorke is jetty-fishing country — a chain of long timber piers reaching out over seagrass flats into calm gulf water. This trail links the best of them for a few unhurried days of squid, whiting and garfish.
Fish the dawn and dusk bites, swim through the middle of the day, and move down the coast at your own pace.
Day one — Port Vincent and Stansbury
Start at the friendly Port Vincent Jetty, all squid and garfish in a holiday-town setting, then drift south to the long heritage Stansbury Jetty over the Oyster Bay flats — one of the best squidding jetties on the peninsula.
Day two — Edithburgh and the south
Drop down to the Edithburgh Jetty, a famous dive and fishing spot, basing yourself near the crabbing flats of Sultana Point. Cool off in the Edithburgh Tidal Pool between sessions.
Day three — Wool Bay and Port Hughes
Finish with the photogenic Wool Bay Jetty and its old lime kiln, then cross to the west coast for a whiting session off the Port Hughes Jetty.
