Kadina is the largest town on the Yorke Peninsula and the commercial heart of the Copper Coast, the trio of towns - alongside Wallaroo and Moonta - that grew rich on copper from 1859 and earned the region its nickname, "Australia's Little Cornwall". The town name is thought to come from a Narungga word meaning "lizard plain". Grand stone buildings around Victoria Square recall the mining boom, and a strong Cornish thread still runs through the place, most visibly in the Kernewek Lowender, billed as the world's largest Cornish festival outside Cornwall, shared with Wallaroo and Moonta in odd-numbered years.
