Innes Pondalowie Surf Break
The Yorke's most famous wave, a powerful left-hander breaking off Pondalowie Bay in Innes.
Pondalowie is the surf break that put the Yorke Peninsula on the map for South Australian surfers — a powerful, world-class left-hander that peels along the reef at the western edge of Innes National Park. When the Southern Ocean swell lines up, it draws a dedicated crew willing to make the long drive for one of the best waves in the state.
The break sits below the Pondalowie campground and the old fishing-fleet moorings, where painted dinghies still rock at anchor. It is a serious wave over reef, best left to experienced surfers, but the headlands above offer a grandstand view of the action for everyone else.
Uncrowded by city standards and ringed by wild national park, Pondalowie is the soul of surfing on the bottom of Yorke.
