The West Coast Surf and Solitude Run
Empty beaches and quiet swell down the gulf's western shore
The plan
The western coast of the Yorke Peninsula is its quieter face, a run of exposed beaches and reef breaks that surfers and anglers tend to keep to themselves. This itinerary follows it south over two unhurried days, trading crowds for space and big skies.
Start at the old grain port of Port Victoria and work down through Point Turton, where a sheltered jetty offers an easy fish. From there the coast turns wild, with remote breaks at Swincer Rocks and Chinaman Wells rewarding those happy to drive a little dirt.
