Chinaman Wells

A remote west-coast surf and fishing beach.

A remote west-coast beach below Brentwood, known to surfers and beach fishers for its quiet swell and salmon.

On the exposed western flank of the Yorke Peninsula, Chinaman Wells is the kind of beach that surfers and fishers keep to themselves. The swell that rolls in off Spencer Gulf finds form along this coast, and on the right day there is good, uncrowded surf to be had.

For anglers it is salmon country, with schools running close to the beach through the cooler months and the chance of mullet and tommy ruff besides. The coast here is wide open, backed by dunes and farmland, with nothing much between you and the horizon.

Access is by unsealed road and there are no facilities, so it suits travellers who are happy to be self-sufficient and to read the weather carefully.
