Curramulka

A historic central farming town whose name means "emu" and "deep water hole", with a classic country pub.

Curramulka is a small inland town in the heart of Yorke Peninsula's farming country, its name drawn from Narungga words meaning emu and deep water hole. The surrounding Hundred of Curramulka was surveyed in 1874 and the district flourished through the late 19th and early 20th centuries, shipping its grain out through nearby Port Julia. The town's heritage is anchored by the Curramulka Institute, a mechanics' institute built in 1885 with later additions, and by its enduring country pub, a welcoming stop for a counter meal and a cold drink. Beneath the district lies a network of limestone caves that have long intrigued visitors. Quiet, friendly and steeped in rural history, Curramulka offers a genuine taste of peninsula life away from the coast.
