Bluff Beach

A long west-coast beach below low bluffs, popular for surf fishing, beginner waves and beachcombing.

Bluff Beach stretches along the western coast of Yorke Peninsula below the low cliffs that give it its name, between the holiday settlements south of Maitland. It is a wide, sandy surf beach that catches the swells rolling up Spencer Gulf, offering gentle, beginner-friendly waves on smaller days and reliable surf fishing for Australian salmon, mullet and whiting from the shore. The bluffs behind the beach provide sweeping views along the coast and make a fine vantage for sunset. Backed by a scatter of shacks and holiday homes, Bluff Beach is an easygoing spot for a swim, a long walk or a session with the rod. As with much of the exposed west coast, watch for currents and check conditions before entering the water.
