Maitland
Hilltop "heart of Yorke Peninsula" market town.
A planned hilltop town at the centre of the peninsula, with heritage streetscapes, a museum and a popular market.
Maitland crowns a rise near the geographic centre of the peninsula and bills itself the "heart of Yorke Peninsula." Laid out in a neat grid in 1872, it looks out over rolling farmland that runs down to both gulfs. Visitors find heritage stone buildings, a National Trust museum, a lively country market and an attractive main street, plus easy access to the beaches of Balgowan, Port Victoria and Ardrossan.
