Clinton Conservation Park
A coastal wetland reserve of mangroves and tidal flats at the head of Gulf St Vincent, rich in birdlife.
Clinton Conservation Park protects a swathe of mangroves, samphire flats and tidal mudflats at the very head of Gulf St Vincent, near Port Clinton on Yorke Peninsula. This is one of the most important shorebird habitats in the region, where extensive intertidal flats feed large numbers of resident and migratory wading birds, some travelling from the northern hemisphere. The park's mangrove forests also serve as a nursery for fish and crustaceans, including the blue swimmer crabs the area is famous for. Quiet and undeveloped, it appeals to birdwatchers, photographers and anyone drawn to wild coastal wetlands. There are no built facilities, so come prepared, tread lightly and bring binoculars. Visit around the tides and seasons to catch the wetland and its birdlife at their most active.
