Balgowan
A tiny west-coast holiday hamlet beneath low cliffs, long loved by anglers and shack holidaymakers.
Balgowan is a small, peaceful holiday settlement tucked beneath low cliffs on the western coast of Yorke Peninsula, within the old Hundred of Kilkerran. It has been a favourite escape for generations of South Australian families drawn by its excellent fishing, quiet sandy beach and laid-back shack-life atmosphere. Anglers come for the King George whiting, snapper and squid found offshore, while the foreshore is a fine place for a swim, a picnic or a wander at low tide. The clifftop offers wide views across Spencer Gulf, especially at sunset. With a boat ramp, a caravan park and little else to interrupt the calm, Balgowan is the kind of unhurried coastal spot the peninsula does so well. Bring supplies, as services are limited.
