Tiddy Widdy Beach
A wide, shallow tidal flat near Ardrossan famous for blue swimmer crab raking and long, calm walks at low tide.
With one of the most memorable names on the peninsula, Tiddy Widdy Beach is a broad, shallow tidal flat that empties out a long way at low tide. That makes it one of the classic Yorke Peninsula crabbing spots: families wade out with rakes and nets after blue swimmer crabs across the warm shallows.
The calm, protected water is ideal for small children to paddle, and the long flats are perfect for an unhurried walk, with seabirds picking over the exposed sand and seagrass. It is the kind of quiet, old-fashioned beach holiday spot that the east coast of Yorke does so well.
Close to Ardrossan, it makes an easy half-day outing, best timed around a low tide with a crab rake, a bucket and plenty of sunscreen.
