Stenhouse Bay

The historic gateway to Innes, where a long jetty and old gypsum-loading relics meet sheltered fishing waters.

Stenhouse Bay marks the entrance to Innes National Park and carries the weight of its industrial past. The long jetty here once loaded gypsum mined at nearby Inneston onto ships bound for interstate markets; today it is a favourite of jetty fishers chasing tommy ruff, squid and the occasional snapper in the sheltered bay below.

The sandstone cliffs around the bay glow gold in late light, and remnants of the old loading infrastructure tell the story of the gypsum era that built Inneston township just up the road. A small store and accommodation cluster make this a practical base for exploring the park.

It is a working introduction to Innes — part heritage site, part fishing spot, part doorway to the wild coast beyond.
