A Family Beach Day on the West Coast
Safe water, crabs and quiet sand
The plan
The Yorke's west coast is made for young families: shallow, gently shelving beaches, warm calm water and tidal flats alive with blue swimmer crabs. This day keeps things simple — paddle, crab, picnic, repeat.
Time it around a falling tide for the best crabbing and you'll come home with a feed.
Morning
Start at Hardwicke Bay, where the water stays shallow and warm and the flats are prime crabbing ground — perfect for little ones with rakes and buckets.
Midday
Drive up to Point Turton for its safe swimming beach and grassy foreshore, with the pub right there for lunch and the Point Turton Jetty for a cast.
Afternoon
Finish at the broad, calm sweep of Moonta Bay, with its long jetty, swimming flats and easy access — a relaxed end to a day spent in and out of the water.
