Stenhouse Bay Lookout
Cliff-top views over the old gypsum loading jetty.
A short walk to a clifftop lookout above the historic Stenhouse Bay gypsum jetty at the edge of Innes National Park.
Perched on the cliffs above the entrance to Innes National Park, the Stenhouse Bay Lookout takes in one of the most photogenic corners of the southern Yorke Peninsula. Below you sits the long timber gypsum jetty, a relic of the mining era when Inneston shipped its harvest out across Investigator Strait.
The water here glows an improbable turquoise on a calm day, framed by the dark limestone headlands that run the length of the park's coast. It is an easy stop straight off the main road, with interpretive signs explaining the gypsum trade that built the township behind you.
Morning light is best for photographs, when the sun is behind you and the bay is sheltered from the prevailing swell. Keep an eye out for ospreys working the cliffs and dolphins in the bay below.
