Point Davenport Conservation Park
A wild, little-visited coastal reserve of dunes, samphire flats and rich birdlife near Edithburgh.
Point Davenport Conservation Park protects a wild stretch of coast and tidal lagoon on the lower Yorke Peninsula, a place of windswept dunes, samphire flats and a sheltered inlet alive with birds. It sees few visitors, which is exactly its appeal — this is country left largely to nature.
The lagoon and surrounding flats are important habitat for wading birds and waterfowl, and the dune systems shelter native scrub and reptiles. Access is by unsealed track and exploration is on foot; there are no facilities, so come prepared and tread lightly.
For birdwatchers, walkers and anyone seeking solitude, Point Davenport is a quiet jewel — an undeveloped corner of coast that rewards patience and a willingness to leave the bitumen behind.
