Chinamans Hat Island Lookout

A surf lookout above Pondalowie Bay facing the distinctive conical Chinamans Hat Island, watching over one of the bottom of Yorke's best breaks.

Above Pondalowie Bay, a short walk leads to a lookout facing Chinamans Hat Island, a small conical islet that gives the surrounding waters their name. The break in front of the island is one of the most consistent and respected on the bottom of Yorke, drawing surfers willing to make the long drive into Innes.

The lookout is the best vantage point for sizing up the swell, watching the lineup, or simply taking in the sweep of the bay with its crayfishing boats moored offshore. The island itself is a seabird haven, often ringed by terns and cormorants.

Even on flat days the view is a stunner, and the walk pairs well with the nearby Pondalowie dunes and the Royston Head trail for a fuller day exploring this corner of the park.
